Singapore’s most anticipated paleontological showcase has arrived, bringing 400 million years of Earth’s history to life at Science Centre Singapore. The Dinosaur Exhibition at Science Centre Singapore, officially titled “Dinosaurs | Extinctions | Us,” opened its doors on 11 October 2025, marking a milestone as the centre’s largest-ever dinosaur exhibition . This groundbreaking collaboration between Science Centre Singapore and the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum presents an unprecedented journey through prehistoric giants and mass extinction events.

A Supersized Prehistoric Encounter

The Dinosaur Exhibition at Science Centre Singapore spans an impressive 3,000 square metres, featuring 33 rare fossils and 60 full-scale models that chronicle the dramatic rise and fall of prehistoric life. Visitors entering the exhibition are immediately transported back in time, beginning their journey over 400 million years ago during the Ordovician period, when ancient creatures first dominated Earth’s oceans.

The centrepiece of this remarkable display is the awe-inspiring Patagotitan mayorum, a colossal 40-metre dinosaur cast that represents one of the largest creatures ever to walk the Earth. Weighing approximately 70 tonnes—equivalent to ten elephants—this prehistoric titan stretches longer than a blue whale, creating an overwhelming sense of scale that leaves visitors genuinely dwarfed by its prehistoric majesty.

Two World-Class Exhibitions Unite

The Dinosaur Exhibition at Science Centre Singapore uniquely combines two internationally acclaimed experiences: “Dinosaurs of Patagonia” and “Six Extinctions,” creating an epic educational adventure across three interactive zones.

Dinosaurs of Patagonia: Ancient Giants Revealed

Curated by the renowned Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio (MEF), the Dinosaurs of Patagonia section transports visitors to ancient Patagonia, one of the world’s most fertile fossil grounds. This section showcases 13 extraordinary dinosaur species, each telling a unique story of prehistoric life.

The exhibition features authentic fossils from the Patagotitan mayorum, including its dorsal rib, femur, and caudal vertebra. These remarkable specimens were discovered in Chubut, Argentina, where scientists unearthed over 180 parts of the skeleton in exceptional condition, making it the most complete specimen of its type ever found and one of paleontology’s most significant discoveries.

Six Extinctions: Earth’s Catastrophic Moments

Created by Gondwana Studios, the Six Extinctions section presents more than 30 extraordinary displays chronicling nature’s greatest upheavals. This powerful exhibition guides visitors through the five major mass extinction events that shaped our planet, from the End-Ordovician to the End-Cretaceous event that eliminated the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

The undisputed star of this section is “Scotty,” the largest Tyrannosaurus rex ever discovered. This magnificent specimen provides visitors with an up-close encounter with one of history’s most formidable predators, whilst the exhibition’s thought-provoking finale confronts audiences with the sobering reality of the ongoing sixth mass extinction driven by human activity.

Singapore’s Extinction Story: A Local Perspective

To create deeper connections with local audiences, the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum has incorporated specimens from its own collection to highlight Singapore’s biodiversity challenges. This poignant section features the cream-coloured giant squirrel (Ratufa affinis affinis) and the rufous-collared kingfisher (Actenoides concretus), both species now nationally extinct in Singapore.

This segment also showcases cutting-edge scientific methods and analytical tools currently employed to study extinction records, demonstrating how modern science works to predict and prevent future species loss.

Interactive Adventures Throughout Time

The Dinosaur Exhibition at Science Centre Singapore offers numerous hands-on experiences designed to engage visitors of all ages. Interactive elements are strategically placed throughout the exhibition, including fossil excavation activities on touchscreens during the Triassic period section. In the Cretaceous area, visitors can experience the texture of dinosaur skin through authentic Carnotaurus sastrei skin replicas.

Additional interactive features include colouring activities where dinosaurs come to life on screen, and a paid fossil digging experience (S$5) where participants can win plush toys upon completion. These engaging elements ensure that the exhibition appeals to families whilst maintaining educational rigour.

Planning Your Prehistoric Adventure

The Dinosaur Exhibition at Science Centre Singapore runs from 12 October 2025 to 22 March 2026, providing ample opportunity for visitors to witness this extraordinary showcase. The exhibition is located at the Annexe of Science Centre Singapore, with the typical visit lasting 60 to 90 minutes depending on individual engagement levels.

The exhibition is suitable for children aged five years and above, with all content presented in English. Gallery staff remain on-site throughout operating hours to assist visitors, though formal guided tours are not available.

Ticketing and Accessibility

Tickets are exclusively available online, with preferential pricing for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. For locals, adult tickets cost S$29.90 whilst children and senior citizens pay S$25.90, with Science Centre Singapore admission included. Standard admission prices are set at S$39.90 for adults and S$35.90 for children.

The exhibition prioritises accessibility, featuring ramps and wide entrances suitable for manual wheelchairs, canes, walkers, and alternative mobility devices, though motorised wheelchairs cannot be accommodated. Photography and videography are permitted for personal use, excluding flash photography and tripods.

A Journey Through Deep Time

The Dinosaur Exhibition at Science Centre Singapore represents more than a simple display of prehistoric creatures—it’s a comprehensive exploration of life’s resilience and fragility across geological time. By combining spectacular fossils, immersive storytelling, and cutting-edge scientific insights, this exhibition challenges visitors to understand their place within Earth’s continuing evolutionary narrative.

From the towering Patagotitan mayorum to the formidable “Scotty” the T. rex, every element of this remarkable exhibition contributes to a deeper understanding of extinction, adaptation, and the delicate balance that sustains life on our planet. As Singapore’s largest dinosaur showcase, this extraordinary exhibition offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness the magnificent creatures that once dominated Earth whilst reflecting on our responsibility as stewards of contemporary biodiversity.
