As the Lunar New Year approaches, Singaporeans are gearing up for celebrations amidst concerns about rising costs. In a welcome move, FairPrice Group (FPG) has announced a price freeze on popular Chinese New Year (CNY) items, ensuring that festive essentials remain affordable for all.
From 9 January to 12 February 2025, FPG will implement a price freeze on 15 popular festive items across all FairPrice supermarkets. This initiative aims to keep essential groceries accessible during a period typically marked by increased demand and rising prices.
The price freeze covers a wide range of products commonly purchased for CNY celebrations:
Seafood and Fish:
Pork Products:
Vegetables:
FPG conducted market surveys between 2 and 7 January 2025, comparing prices at wet markets in Chinatown Complex, Bedok, Tiong Bahru, and Ghim Moh with those at FairPrice stores. The results showed that prices for seafood and pork at wet markets were 20 to 30 percent higher than those at FairPrice.

In addition to the price freeze, FPG is offering exclusive promotions on fresh vegetables. Some notable discounts include:
Mr Vipul Chawla, Group CEO of FairPrice Group, emphasised the company’s commitment to making the festive season more affordable for Singaporeans. He stated, “High demand for festive produce inevitably drives prices up, and so this price freeze is our way of making every day of the season a little better for our customers by keeping these popular festive essentials within reach”.
FPG has also announced other measures to help Singaporeans stretch their dollars:
These initiatives are part of FPG’s commitment to commemorate SG60 and assist Singaporeans in managing the rising cost of living.
As part of its community engagement efforts, FairPrice Foundation (FPF) organised two CNY block parties in the Tampines and Redhill neighbourhoods on 11 January 2025. More than 400 residents attended these events, where goodie bags filled with essentials were distributed to lower-income residents.
At the Tampines block party, FPF also distributed trays of fresh eggs to 120 families in need. This initiative was informed by FPF’s 2024 research study, which revealed fresh protein to be the top preference for beneficiaries of food donation programmes.
FairPrice is also offering online promotions for the CNY period. Customers can enjoy exclusive deals and discounts when shopping on the FairPrice website or app. Some highlights include:
To accommodate the increased shopping activity during the festive period, FairPrice has announced extended operating hours for selected outlets from 21 January to 30 January 2025.
FairPrice Group’s CNY price freeze initiative demonstrates its commitment to keeping festive essentials affordable for Singaporeans. By locking prices on popular items, offering additional discounts, and engaging with the community through block parties, FPG aims to help customers celebrate Chinese New Year without breaking the bank.
As the nation commemorates SG60, these initiatives reflect FPG’s dedication to supporting Singaporeans during important cultural celebrations and addressing the challenges of rising living costs. Shoppers are encouraged to take advantage of these promotions, which run from 9 January to 12 February 2025, to make their festive preparations more economical and enjoyable.
With these measures in place, Singaporeans can look forward to a more affordable and accessible Chinese New Year celebration, focusing on the joy of gathering with family and friends rather than worrying about the cost of festive essentials.
