Have you ever dreamt of floating through the International Space Station or gazing at Earth from space? A revolutionary exhibition has landed in Singapore, transforming these dreams into a tangible reality. Space Explorers: THE INFINITE marks a pivotal moment for Southeast Asia, bringing NASA’s groundbreaking virtual reality experience to our shores. As Singapore becomes only the third country globally to host this extraordinary showcase, visitors now have the unprecedented opportunity to step into the astronauts’ world, 400 kilometres above Earth.

A Revolutionary Space Journey

Singapore’s Science Centre has unveiled an unprecedented virtual gateway to space exploration, hosting Southeast Asia’s first-ever showcase of Space Explorers: THE INFINITE until 23 March 2025. This groundbreaking exhibition transforms the way we perceive space travel, offering visitors an extraordinary opportunity to experience life aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Unprecedented Virtual Reality Experience

Revolutionary Technology

The exhibition harnesses state-of-the-art virtual reality technology to transport visitors 400 kilometres above Earth. Using advanced Meta Quest 2 headsets, participants can navigate through a meticulously crafted virtual environment where they interact with fellow explorers through colour-coded avatars – yellow for group members, green for staff, and blue for other visitors.

Immersive Journey

The hour-long adventure comprises three distinct chapters, with 40 minutes dedicated to pure VR immersion. Visitors physically walk through a life-sized virtual replica of the ISS, experiencing the daily routines of astronauts in unprecedented detail. The exhibition features footage captured over two years during the pandemic, offering intimate glimpses into astronauts’ lives, including their personal reflections and emotional moments away from their families.

Remarkable Features

Space Station Exploration

The exhibition’s centrepiece is a fully walkable 3D model of the International Space Station2. Visitors can float through narrow corridors, observe scientific experiments, and experience the sensation of zero gravity, all while maintaining complete spatial awareness through the sophisticated VR system.

Historic Spacewalk

One of the most compelling segments features the first-ever spacewalk captured in cinematic virtual reality. Visitors witness this historic moment from a designated viewing area, accessed via individual light paths, providing an unparallelled perspective of astronauts conducting emergency operations against the backdrop of Earth.

Earth Observation

Perhaps the most moving aspect is the opportunity to view our planet from orbit. Many visitors report emotional responses when witnessing Earth from 400 kilometres above, gaining the rare perspective that typically only astronauts experience. This view has brought numerous visitors to tears, offering a profound shift in perspective about our place in the cosmos.

Technical Achievement

The exhibition represents a remarkable technical accomplishment, featuring:

  • Over 250 hours of never-before-seen space footage
  • Emmy Award-winning content from the Space Explorers series
  • An evocative musical score by composer Frédérick Bégin
  • Advanced virtual reality mapping technology

Global Recognition

The exhibition has already captivated over 400,000 visitors worldwide, earning exceptional reviews and acclaim. Singapore marks only the third country globally to host this extraordinary experience, underscoring its significance in the realm of immersive education and entertainment.

Future of Space Education

Space Explorers: THE INFINITE represents a significant advancement in space education and public engagement. By combining cutting-edge technology with actual NASA mission footage, it bridges the gap between earthbound observers and the select few who have experienced space firsthand. The exhibition concludes with a showcase of NASA’s Artemis rocket launch, offering glimpses into future lunar missions and humanity’s continued journey into space.

This groundbreaking exhibition not only educates but also inspires, providing visitors with a profound understanding of space exploration and our place in the universe. It stands as a testament to how modern technology can bring the furthest reaches of human achievement within reach of everyday people, making the extraordinary accessible to all.
