Singapore had 391 km of park connectors at the end of 2024, according to the Ministry of National Development. One guide counts more than 730 km of cycling paths and park connectors island-wide, according to Expat Focus. Beginners can start with the 14 km ride from East Coast Park to Marina Barrage, which takes about an hour, according to GetGo. Bike rental at East Coast Park costs about $12 an hour, according to Homejourney.
This guide covers routes by level, costs and the rules to follow.
Start with flat, short routes. GetGo says the East Coast Park to Marina Barrage route is 14 km and takes about an hour. If you rent at East Coast Park, GetGo notes you must cycle or drive back to return the bike, so plan a loop. Women’s Weekly describes a leisurely 3.5 km family ride from East Coast Park to Jewel Changi Airport, and Punggol Waterway Park offers a 4.2 km ride along a man-made canal.
Other flat options exist. HoneyKids lists Punggol Waterway Park, Bedok Reservoir Park and West Coast Park as good for toddlers and young children, and says West Coast Park rents bikes and even go-karts and four-person bikes.
A short answer to “where should a first-time cyclist go?” is East Coast Park, because it is flat, has rental shops and has food stops along the way.
Step up when you are ready. Women’s Weekly describes a 17.5 km trail through Tampines Eco Green, Bedok Food Centre and East Coast Park. Silverkris adds that Coney Island is reachable by renting a bike from Punggol Point, and says about 80 bird species live there.
For a long ride, the Round Island Route is the big goal. GetGo says it already spans over 75 km across the eastern half, with a planned length of 150 km including the west. Women’s Weekly adds that the main route from Rower’s Bay to Gardens by the Bay is 60 km, via Sengkang, Punggol, Pasir Ris, Changi and East Coast Park. The Coast-to-Coast Trail is 36 km and links Coney Island with Jurong Lake Gardens, according to the same source.
Here is a quick comparison.
Route | Distance | Level | Notes |
East Coast Park to Marina Barrage | 14 km, about 1 hour | Easy | Rental shops nearby |
Changi Airport Connector | 3.5 km | Easy | Leads towards Jewel Changi Airport |
Punggol Waterway Park | 4.2 km | Easy | Man-made canal |
Tampines to East Coast Park trail | 17.5 km | Medium | Includes Bedok Food Centre |
Coast-to-Coast Trail | 36 km | Hard | Coney Island to Jurong Lake Gardens |
Round Island Route | 150 km planned, 75 km built in the east | Hard | Parts still being built |

Homejourney says bike rental runs from $10 an hour to $30 a day, with McRent-a-Bike at East Coast Park listed at 12anhourfrom8amto8pm.ExpatFocuslistsbike-sharefromS1 per 30 minutes with Anywheel and HelloRide.
Compare rental and bike-share before you decide. For a short ride, bike-share may be cheaper. For a longer day, a rental shop usually offers better bikes and baskets. HoneyKids says East Coast Park, West Coast Park, Pulau Ubin and Sentosa are best for hiring bikes on the day.
Know the speed limits. Wikipedia says speed is capped at 25 km/h on park connectors and shared paths, and lower on footpaths. Expat Focus adds that the Rail Corridor has a stricter 10 km/h limit, and that riders may not use mobile devices while riding under the Active Mobility Act.
Share the path. Silverkris notes that park connector routes are shared with walkers and joggers, so ring your bell and slow down at busy points. Carry water, wear sun protection and avoid midday heat.
Here is the blunt limitation. Route lengths vary between guides, for example East Coast Park is given as 17.5 km in one source and 19 km in another. Rental prices and bike-share rates also change. Check each operator’s page and the NParks map before you ride.

Routes come with detours. TheSmartLocal says the 3.5 km Changi Airport Connector includes a 1 km stretch called the Changi Jurassic Mile, lined with life-sized dinosaurs, some as tall as 5 m. Silverkris says you can bring your own bike to Coney Island or rent one from Punggol Point or Punggol Settlement, and that about 80 bird species live there. HoneyKids lists Kranji and the Changi Airport Connector among rides with good pit stops.
Can I bring my own bike on the MRT? Rules vary by line and bike type. Check the operator’s guidelines before you travel, and consider renting near the route to avoid carrying a bike.
Is cycling safe for children? Flat park connectors suit children, according to HoneyKids, which lists Punggol Waterway Park, Bedok Reservoir Park and West Coast Park for young cyclists.
What time should I ride? Go early or late to avoid the heat. The Round Island Route and other long rides are easier in cooler hours.
Can I ride at night? Some routes are lit, according to Homejourney, but not all. Check your route and use lights if you ride after dark.
