As the Lunar New Year approaches, KFC Singapore is set to delight fans with an adorable collaboration that combines fried chicken with feline charm. From 13 January 2025, KFC will launch its exclusive partnership with Mofusand, the beloved Japanese cat illustration series, offering a range of limited-edition merchandise that’s sure to captivate collectors and food enthusiasts alike.
The star of this collaboration is undoubtedly the cute Mofusand characters, reimagined with KFC’s iconic elements. These adorable cats don various KFC-themed costumes, including the signature red and white striped bucket, egg tarts, and even drumsticks. The result is a whimsical fusion that perfectly captures the spirit of both brands.
One of the most sought-after items in this collection is the series of plushie keychains. Standing at four inches tall, these soft and cuddly trinkets are perfect for attaching to bags, keys, or simply displaying. KFC will release three different designs over three consecutive weeks:
To get your paws on these charming keychains, simply purchase a Cereal Chicken Box or Cereal Chicken Burger Box for S$12.95. Each customer is limited to two keychains per purchase, ensuring that more fans have the opportunity to collect these coveted items.
For those seeking a more substantial cuddle companion, KFC has the perfect offering. From 5 February 2025, a limited number of eight-inch KFC Bucket Mofusand plushies will be available. These larger plushies feature the Mofusand character sporting an oversized KFC bucket as a hat, complete with a red ribbon reminiscent of Colonel Sanders’ iconic bowtie.
Priced at S$19.95 with any purchase of a Cereal Chicken Box or Cereal Chicken Burger Box, these plushies are sure to fly off the shelves. However, they will only be available at ten selected KFC outlets: Kallang, West Mall, Tampines Mall, Causeway Point, VivoCity, NEX, Jurong Point, Lot 1, Compass One, and Northpoint City. Customers are limited to one plushie per person, so early birds are likely to catch this particular worm – or should we say, chicken.
No Lunar New Year celebration would be complete without red packets, and KFC has this covered too. From 13 January to 18 February 2025, customers can receive a set of KFC x Mofusand red packets free with any purchase of Cereal Chicken or Cereal Chicken Burger bundles. Each set includes six red packets featuring two endearing designs: Mofusand cats performing a lively lion dance and dressed up as KFC’s iconic fried chicken and bucket.
For those who enjoy an element of surprise, KFC is offering ‘blind box’ sticker packs from 13 January to 11 February 2025. With a minimum spend of S$12 in a single receipt during breakfast hours, customers can receive a mystery pack containing one of three possible sticker sheet designs. It’s a perfect opportunity for collectors to try their luck and potentially gather the full set.
While the merchandise is undoubtedly the main attraction, KFC hasn’t forgotten about tantalising taste buds. The collaboration coincides with the return of some fan-favourite menu items, perfect for celebrating the Lunar New Year:
These limited-time menu items provide the perfect excuse to visit KFC and potentially snag some of the coveted Mofusand merchandise.
To take part in this purr-fect promotion, customers can visit participating KFC outlets (excluding KFC Sentosa and Singapore Zoo) for dine-in and takeaway options. The merchandise will be available while stocks last, and given the popularity of similar collaborations in the past, it’s advisable to act quickly.
For those unable to visit in person, KFC is also offering delivery options via platforms such as GrabFood, FoodPanda, Deliveroo, and KFC’s own delivery service. However, it’s worth noting that some merchandise may be exclusive to in-store purchases.
As with any limited-edition release, there’s always the potential for resellers to take advantage of the situation. On the first day of the promotion, some scalpers were already listing the Mofusand keychains on Carousell for inflated prices, with one audacious listing reaching S$500. KFC has implemented purchase limits to curb such practices, but enthusiasts are advised to obtain their merchandise through official channels to avoid disappointment and excessive costs.
This collaboration is part of a larger trend of fast-food chains partnering with popular character brands to create limited-edition merchandise. It follows in the footsteps of successful campaigns like McDonald’s Hello Kitty promotion in 2000, which saw unprecedented queues forming for plush toys.
For KFC, this partnership with Mofusand represents a strategic move to engage customers beyond just food offerings. By tapping into the collectibles market and the widespread appeal of cute character merchandise, KFC is creating a buzz that extends well beyond their usual customer base.
As we usher in the Year of the Dragon, KFC’s collaboration with Mofusand offers a delightful way to celebrate. Whether you’re a devoted fan of the fried chicken chain, a collector of cute merchandise, or simply looking for a unique way to mark the Lunar New Year, this limited-time offering provides something special for everyone.
With its blend of delicious food and adorable collectibles, KFC’s Mofusand collaboration is set to make the start of 2025 a memorable one for food lovers and kawaii enthusiasts alike. So mark your calendars, set your alarms, and get ready to add some feline charm to your Lunar New Year celebrations, courtesy of KFC Singapore.
