Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6) opened for passenger service on 12 July 2026, adding three new stations: Keppel (CC30), Cantonment (CC31) and Prince Edward Road (CC32), according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA). This finally connects HarbourFront station to Marina Bay station directly, completing the full loop and saving commuters around 10 minutes on journeys that previously required a transfer. The completed Circle Line now spans 39 kilometres across 33 stations, with 12 interchange stations linking to every other MRT line on the network.

This guide breaks down what actually changed and what to expect on the network next.

What Exactly Changed With The Circle Line Completion?

Before CCL6 opened, travelling between HarbourFront and Marina Bay on the Circle Line required a transfer, since the line was not yet a closed loop despite its name. With the three new stations now operational, the same journey runs directly on a single train, saving around 10 minutes of travel time, according to LTA’s official announcement.

The three new stations were designed with barrier-free access, lifts, escalators and tactile guidance systems throughout, alongside energy-efficient features such as smart lighting and motion-sensor controls. Bicycle parking and sheltered linkways were also built in to support cycling and walking access to the stations.

What’s Coming Next On Singapore’s Rail Network?

The Circle Line’s completion is not the only major rail change happening around the same period. The Downtown Line Stage 3 extension (DTL3) was scheduled to open in the second half of 2026, with the Downtown Line adjusting its Friday and Saturday operating hours between 10 July and 5 September 2026 to prepare for the new stretch, according to LTA.

Looking further ahead, the Cross Island Line (CRL), Singapore’s eighth MRT line and longest fully underground line at more than 50 kilometres, remains under construction. Its first phase, covering 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill, is targeted to open in 2030, with a Punggol Extension and Phase 2 both targeted for 2032.

Here is a quick reference for what has changed and what is still ahead.

Does This Actually Change Daily Commutes For Most People?

Here is the honest answer. The 10-minute time saving matters most for a specific group of commuters travelling directly between the HarbourFront and Marina Bay areas, and it will not meaningfully change journeys for people who never travelled that particular stretch. If your daily commute does not touch either end of that loop, the practical impact on your routine will be minimal.

One limitation worth stating plainly. New MRT stations often see temporary crowding and unfamiliar wayfinding in their first few months of operation, as commuters and station staff adjust to new transfer patterns. Expect the initial weeks after any station opening, including these three, to run less smoothly than a station that has been operating for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which three stations opened as part of CCL6? Keppel (CC30), Cantonment (CC31) and Prince Edward Road (CC32) opened for passenger service on 12 July 2026, completing the Circle Line loop between HarbourFront and Marina Bay.

Does the Circle Line completion affect fares? Completing the loop does not automatically change fare structures, since MRT fares in Singapore are typically distance-based, so a shorter, more direct route may reduce fares slightly for affected journeys compared to a longer route requiring a transfer.

When will the Downtown Line Stage 3 extension open? DTL3 was scheduled to open in the second half of 2026, with LTA adjusting Downtown Line operating hours between 10 July and 5 September 2026 in preparation, though an exact opening date should be confirmed via LTA’s official channels closer to the date.

Is the Cross Island Line the next major rail project after DTL3? Yes, though it remains under construction with a longer timeline. Phase 1 is targeted for 2030, with the Punggol Extension and Phase 2 targeted for 2032, and later phases stretching into the late 2030s.

Will the new CCL6 stations have shopping or dining options similar to other MRT interchanges? Specific retail plans for Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road stations were not detailed in LTA’s opening announcement, so checking directly with the stations or LTA’s updates closer to your visit is the more reliable way to confirm current amenities.

What should first-time commuters know before using the newly completed loop? Since the Circle Line can now be travelled in either a clockwise or anticlockwise direction to reach the same destination, checking both options on a journey planner before boarding can reveal a faster route than the one you might default to out of habit.
